A middle aged woman, who worked before in a restaurant, started her own living assessories store in the municipality of Hoeksche Waard, The Netherlands. Her partner, who was a painter and construction worker, helps her set up the store interior. He has a steady income from his work projects so she had the room to start a retail store business. She wanted more customers in her store but also want to open her online webshop and sell products there.
During my coaching consult, I noticed she was struggling with a psychological barrier for success. She was hoping for some wealthy business individual to randomly enter her store and run the business, as you see sometimes happening in a television program. Thereby placing the control of the success of the store outside of herself. Also she allowed herself to let other people think for her, like the person that helps her with the webshop.
I coached her through this psychological barrier and helped her understand and feel that she actually has a lot of personal power, which was true. This way she no longer had to be totally dependent on others or feel inferior. Instead she now started to trust her own feelings, thoughts and ideas. Believing in herself that when she can run the restaurant of someone else, then also she can manage and make decisions for her own retail store.
A young woman and single mother, who was running a flexible office space rental business in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, didn't know how to reach and convert clients outside her known network. After the first few years of good business profits from customers she mostly got from her own social network and friends of friends, that source dried up. She had to scale down a lot and change her business model to cater a mix of renters.
During our coaching period, I helped her understand the basic foundation of reaching prospects via online channels such as social media and a website. That gave her more confidence in her business and growing sales in the near future to keep her dream as an entrepreneur viable. She also developed new services like professional trainings and courses, that were complementary to her basic offering of flexible office desks.
She learned to speak more in terms and words that resonate with her target audience. And she learned how to reach people that are not in her existing network, by means of a company website, a social media plan and running advertisements. Whilst also learning what are the key metrics to measure and steer upon, in web and social media channel analytics.
A middle aged and very bright woman, who exclusively imported and distributed a personal vault product from the US to mainland Europe, kept running into bans and blocks with online advertising efforts. She wanted to match the sales figures for her dealership in Europe with the sales figures from the main office in the US. However, as if a curse was bestown upon her, all her online business ads and advertising accounts got permanently blocked.
She was very proactive and tried every option possible, and she followed every instruction from the platform that banned her for improving her ads and make them qualify. But then still her advertisement campaigns weren't unblocked. Until the point she got quite irritated that the people working at the social media channels and search engines never seem to be satisfied with her updated ads.
During our coaching sessions she started to understand the basic principles of automated ad review. She also learned how to operate systems and platforms that are mostly if not fully automated. There was no one personally and intelligently reviewing her advertisements; it was the robotic system that was dumb as hell that got stuck and needed some proper human guidance to find the unblock option. This insight helped her adopt her online marketing and sales strategies to better align with the 'dumb' automatic review system. So that less or no more ads were unnecessarily being blocked for wrong reasons or by falsely triggered rules of the review system.
A set of 3 young ladies, who were running a ecological enterprise of a multi-branch used clothing store, got lost in how to help their prospects checkout their digital cart. Besides a team of 3 women who liked to talk and discuss lot, they were supported by a parade of coaches from ecological, sustainability and social entrepreneurship supporting programs. A brick-and-mortar branch store in Amsterdam was about to be officially opened, but when they started with adding an online webshop to sell their used clothing, there were zero to none sales via that channel.
After an initial tea party with all 3 founder women, where a lot was discussed but little decisions were made and actions taken, we decided to focus our coaching on the one lady, currently residing in fashionistic Italy, who was mainly responsible the online channel (webshop). During the various sessions I helped her (re)define her mission statement and main marketing message. Also I helped her discover how to read the web analytics better, and understand the difference between fake (robotic) visitors and real shoppers. Combined with tricks and tips on reconnecting with online webshop visitors, as if you were facing a prospect in the brick-and-mortar store to whom you can talk and ask feedback.
The clarity and focus achieved helped her construct a better working commercial strategy which includes the online webshop. Plus ways to track progress objectively by reading the customer contact data points correctly. At the end of the coaching, the ladies scaled down the expensive and ineffective Amsterdam shop and better integrated the online experience with the offline experience that was already successful in the province of South-Holland.
A young woman from The Hague, Netherlands, who wanted to make more women beautiful with the best quality hair product line you can think of struggled with finding the right influencers to boost her sales. She had tested the perfect hair extensions product and was selling it at a mid-range price level via her via word of mouth and via an online shop. The important period of the holiday season, with dates like Halloween, Black Friday, Thanksgiving, Sinterklaas and Christmas were coming up. But the question that kept coming back was how could she improve her weekly sales enough to make the switch to full entrepreneurship?
At the several different coaching sessions we discovered ways to optimize her proposal on the website. As her main product was quite personal and has a great impact on the identity of the woman wearing it, we thought of a way to support the feeling and psychological happiness the product brings women who used it. This way she could really stand out from competitors who were currently selling well in the market, but had much lower quality (and less durable) similar hair extension products. She also discovered that her main product, which was quite a one time investment for customers, needed some low-priced side products in order to boost transactions and repeated purchases.
Lastly, to tap into the inborn needs of women to express themselves, she started to contact influencers on social media in order to have them try out and talk about the hair extension product. Because the digital place of influencer marketing is filled with landmines of fakers and liars, we divised a plan on how to select the right influencers. Combined with tracking a few key numbers to monitor the performance of her influencers and webshop improvements, she was able to further grow her business.
On an extremely hot and sunny day I met a young and enthousiastic fit guy in a popular bar in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, where his office was on one of the floors above. After a short career in fitness and sports, which led him to nowhere moneywise, he decided to start a dropshipping company of household and living accessories and sell his products at a premium at popular fast moving consumer good platforms in the Benelux. This guy had a dream and was working on it quite well, and wanted some help and guidance how to really grow his online business in a steady way.
To make his product line stand out from the crowd, I supported him in our coaching sessions to clearly develop what he and his brand represents. What are the core values that he wants his customer to know and feel about his household and living products? Next we worked on refining his weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly goals, which we then translated to daily actions to take.
One of the troubles he had was that the warehouse stock from time to time was too low or empty, resulting in missed sales opportunities. We defined a few key metrics that he could analyse and monitor so that he can quickly steer on always having the right amount of stock nearshore, and which products to boost or relax on the platforms in order to control the number of sales. At the end of our sessions he was not only doing financially much better with his company, he also was able to hire extra hands by means of an intern, which was one of his dream to be able to do as a business owner.
Initially unaware of his superb skills of how easy it appeared to be to communicate with customers online, a mid-aged man who held office at an industrial zone for selling construction equipment and tools started to discover what was important in building an online business presence that draws in sales. This guy could easily talk for an hour and give you all the advice needed to make the best choice in purchasing construction equipment and tools. But he led himself be distracted by the idea that the people he outsourced the website to would 'fully take care of that online thing'.
Sales dropped a few months in row, which really started to demotivate him. He was in competition with the large, well known big brand stores that also sell construction equipment, and were doing good at that, except they gave poor advice and had further little specialized knownledge. So how could he distinguish himself and his business online, and get likes and followers?
After our first coaching session we recorded a brief sample reel where he gave some specific advice about one of his products. We quickly discovered that we didn't want more followers per-se, but more engagement from his prospects and audience, and reaching them with the main message that you'll also get good advice on construction tools when you do business with him. He started redesigning his webshop and online presence to better portray what is Unique Selling Points (USPs) were. And to replicate online the wonderful experience people get when they meet him in person in his shop.
